Ystävälläni oli synttärit ja pääsin taas tekemään kakkua. Ystäväni on Liisa Ihmemaassa -fani, joten aiheen valitseminen ei ollut kovin hankalaa. Tahdoin tehdä kakusta surrealistisen, aivan kuten itse tarinakin on.
Kakku pääosin muodostuu hullun hatuntekijän hatusta, vaikka se pehmeän pohjan vuoksi menettikin alkuperäisen muotonsa. Hatun päällä on Liisan mekko, jonka hän siihen jätti kutistuttuaan niin pieneksi, ettei enää pystynyt mekkoa pitämään. Kakussa koristeina ovat tietenkin myös Irvikissa, flamingo, kaniinin taskukello sekä pelikortteja.
Kakkupohjana toimi melko tavallinen porkkanakakku, jonka ohjetta en enää muistakaan, sillä synttärit olivat jo pari viikkoa sitten, mutta ohje on melko tavallinen ja löytyy varmasti helposti jostain. Halusin vain kokeilla, miltä porkkanakakkupohjainen marsipaanikakku maistuisi. Kakku oli melko makea, muttei ollenkaan paha. Laitoin kakkuun sisälle tuorejuustotäytteen ilman mascarponejuustoa sekä vadelmapyrettä.

My friend had a small birthday party and I got to make the cake. My friend is a fan of Alice in Wonderland so it was not hard to choose the topic for the cake. I wanted it to be surreal just like the story itself.
The cake basically is the mad hatter's hat, even though my cake base was so soft that it didn't hold the original shape. On top of the hat there was Alice's dress since she had left it there when she shrunk too much to wear it. Then on the cake there was of course the Cheshire cat, a flamingo, the rabbit's pocket watch and some playing cards.
The cake base was a rather usual carrot cake, which I no longer remember the recipe for since the birthday was already about two weeks ago, but it's pretty basic and can be found around. I wanted to try what it would taste like to have a carrot cake as a base for a marzipan cake. It did turn out rather sweet but not bad. Also I had some cream cheese filling in the cake without the mascarpone and some raspberry puree.
Tässä samalla voin myös esitellä hieman jotain muuta valmistunutta, Totoro-lapaset. Olen ihaillut tuota ohjetta jo pitkään ja eräänä päivänä päätin tehdä sellaiset Ravelrystä löytyvällä ohjeella. Käytin lankoina lahjaksi saamaani lilaa Novita Rose mohairia sekä vaaleanvihreää SandnesGarn Kitteniä. Lapaset oli yllättävän nopea tehdä. Niistä löytyy sekä iso Totoro sateenvarjon kera että pikkuiset peukalon molemmilla puolilla unohtamatta tietenkään pölypalleroita poukkoilemassa ympäriinsä. Värit ovat hieman erikoiset, mutta ainakin iloiset.

At the same time since I'm blogging I can display something else I've managed to finish, Totoro mittens. I've been glancing at them for ages now and I finally decided to make my own one day. The instructions can be found in Ravelry. The yarns I used were purple Novita Rose mohair I got as a present and some light green SandnesGarn Kitten. The mittens were surprisingly quick to make. They have the big Totoro with an umbrella and also the small ones on both sides of the thumb, not forgetting the dust bunnies bouncing all around. The colors are a little different, but atleast they look cheery.
