Nyt kun joulu on ohi, voin vihdoin esitellä joitakin perheenjäsenilleni tekemiäni lahjoja pelkäämättä sitä, että he pääsevät täältä vilkuilemaan tulevia lahjoja. Muille neulomieni asioiden lisäksi olen tehnyt jotain myös itselleni. Ohimennen mainitsen myös jotain jouluisista ruuista.

So now that xmas is over, I can finally post some of the presents I made for my family without them accidently sneak peeking what they will get. Here are some things I knitted as present and some for myself aswell. Also some food is mentioned in this post.

Ensimmäisenä ovat äidilleni ja itselleni tehdyt lapaset. Punaiset ovat äidilleni ja niissä on peukalossa sekä muiden sormien kohdalla taittuvat kärjet, jottei aina tarvitse ottaa lapasia pois kädestä, kun tarvitsee sorminäppäryyttä. Neuloin lapaset kahdesta samanvärisestä langasta yhdessä, joista toinen oli melko tavallista ja toinen mohairlankaa, joten lapasten tulisi olla erittäin lämpimät. Koristelin lapaset yksinkertaisella valkoisella kuviolla.

First things are some mittens I've made for my mom and me. The red ones are for my mom and they have a folding tip in the thumb and also the fingers so you don't always have to take your mittens off when you need the fingers. I knitted the gloves from two different same colour yarns together, one of them quite plain and the other mohair, so they should be extra warm. I decorated the gloves with a simple stiching in white.

 

Seuraavat lapaset tein itselleni ja nekin on neulottu kahdesta eri langasta yhdessä. Omistan myös lapasiin sopivan pipon, mutta tehdessäni pipon ensin tein sen yksinkertaisesta langasta, eikä pipo ole kovin lämmin. Luultavasti teen pipon uudelleen jossain vaiheessa. Näissä lapasissa langat olivat hieman erivärisiä, mutta mielestäni se saa ne näyttämään vielä paremmilta, hieman sekavärisiltä. Kuvio kämmenselässä on Mairead -pipo-ohjeesta, jolla tein oman piponikin.

Next mittens I made for myself also made from two different yarns knitted together. I also have a matching hat, but I made it from just one yarn (since I made it first) so it's quite cold and I think I'll redo it once I have time. So these mittens are made from a mohair and a plain lizard green yarn. In this case the yarns were slightly different colour but I think it makes them look even better like this, a bit uneven. The pattern on the back of the hand is from the Mairead hat pattern with which I made the matching hat also.

 

Tässä on joitakin muita joululahjoja: bambuisia tiskirättejä. Kokeilin bambulankaa ensimmäisen kerran. Idean tähän sain ydtävältäni. Minulla oli kahdenväristä lankaa ja kokeilin paria yksinkertaista kuviota melko suurilla 5 tai 7 mm puikoilla neuloen löysästi. Tein rätit n. 20 x 20 cm kokoisiksi 30 silmukalla. Bambutiskirätit ovat luonnollisen antibakteerisia, hyvin imukykyisiä sekä nopeasti kuivuvia löyhästi neulottuina. Annoin rätit lahjaksi pareittain niin, että parissa oli molemman värinen rätti.

Here's some more xmas presents: bamboo dishclothes. I tried the bamboo yarn for the first time now. I got the idea from my friend. I had two colours and tried a few different simple patterns using quite large 5 or 7 mm needles and knitting loose. I made the cloths about 20 x 20 cm starting with 30 stiches. The bamboo dishclothes are naturally antibacterial, very absorbant and quick to dry when knitted loosely. As a present I gave them in two's, one of each colour.

 

Tänä syksynä yliopistolla minulla on ollut neulomisprojekti, jota olen tehnyt aina, kun on ollut ylimääräistä aikaa. Lankakerä oli valtava, joten en viitsinyt tuoda työtä kotiin aina välillä. Projekti oli samanlainen putki kuin aikaisempi sininen putkeni. Ystäväni pyysi minua tekemään sellaisen ja osti itse langat putkeen. Sain putken juuri sopivasti valmiiksi joulua varten!. Tässä on kuva ystävästäni putki päällä. Tein putken 7 tai 9 mm puikoilla.

This autumn I've also had a knitting project at uni which I've been knitting every time I've had time. The ball of yarn was huge so I didn't bother to bring it home. The project was the kind of tube pretty much the same as my BlueTube. A friend of mine had requested it and bought the yarn and I just made it. I finished it just in time for xmas! Here is my friend modeling the tube. It was made with some 7 or 9 mm needles.

 

Sitten hieman ruoka-asioita. Mätihyytelön lisäksi (kirjoituksen ensimmäisessä kuvassa) tein uunijuustoa ternimaidosta ennen joulua. Siskoni toi maidon maitotilalta, jossa hän on nyt ollut töissä. Ternimaito on keltaisempaa ja paksumpaa kuin normaali maito ja siten täydellistä uunijuuston valmistukseen. Käytin 1 l maitoa sekä 1/2 tl suolaa melko matalassa uunivuoassa. Paistoin juustoa uunissa n. tunnin ajan. Niin helppoa se on. Juuston voi syödä lämpimänä tai kylmänä esimerkiksi lakkahillon kera, mutta itselläni sitä ei sattunut olemaan.

Then some food. On top of the jellied fish roe in the first picture (which I might add the recipe of later) I made some oven cheese from some colostrum milk just before christmas. My sister had brought it from a dairy farm she is working at. Colostrum is more yellow and a bit thicker than normal milk and perfect for making oven cheese. I used 1 l of the milk and about 1/2 tsp salt in quite a flat glass mold which I then cooked in the oven for about an hour. As simple as that. The cheese can be eaten warm or cold. Often with cloudberry jam, but I didn't happen to have any.
